Synopsis
6pm for a meal, 7.30pm film only
Alan Bennett brings his characteristic mix of wit and poignancy to the script of his latest collaboration with director Nicholas Hytner (The History Boys, The Madness of King George).
Set during WWI in a Yorkshire town where the choral society’s numbers have been depleted by the exodus of men to the front.
Recruiting women to swell the chorus, as well as men too old or young to fight, the town elders are forced to place their trust in a highly unorthodox new choirmaster, Fiennes’ Dr Henry Guthrie.
