Derek Baitey
Studied design at the University of the West of England, Bristol, in the 1970s before running his own design business for many years. “I like to emphasise an aspect of the landscape to better ‘feel’ it.” This applies to these two works where the mud and its patterns are the main feature.”

Jean Baitey
Studied Fine Art/Printmaking at West of England College in the early 1970s and taught at Sunderland and Colchester. Exhibiting widely, the focus of her observation-based drawings and prints. is very much on the texture, surfaces and atmosphere of the places she has visited.

Barbara Bernard
‘I live in Ditchingham and work from a studio in my garden. I paint mostly in oils, mostly landscape or townscape. My style is unashamedly realistic but always, I hope, slightly unconventional. What interests me most is the fall of light and shadow.’

Richard Bond
Based in Norwich, he founded the Norwich Outdoor Painting Group in 2013. His work, ranging from rural landscape to urban themes, still-life to the human figure, has been widely shown, including the Sunday Times Watercolour Exhibition and the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize exhibition.

Eileen Coxon
After studying painting at Norwich school of Art in the late 1980s, she has lived and work in the region for the last 30 years. Her hugely distinctive, semi-abstract style is beautifully suited to the huge, flattened perspectives of East Anglian landscape.

Louise Dougherty
Louise Dougherty studied at Winchester School of Art and taught art in the Midlands for 17 years before moving back to Norfolk. Using thread as a prominent part of her practice, her work explores the feminine experience of landscape. She was a finalist in the Women in Art prize 2024.

Noelle Francis

Betty Gainer
Trained at Chelsea school of Art in the 1930s, Betty Gainer was a prolific wildlife artist, working mostly in oils. Her work on silk was sold by Bond Street shops. She lived latterly in Bungay.

Miranda Grayling-Nielsen
Miranda moved back to Suffolk in 2016 after 28 years living and working in Denmark. Her colourful and quirky mixed media work exudes a sense of fun and a love of colour has been widely exhibited.

Maggi Hambling
Maggi Hambling (b. 1945, Sudbury, UK) has been at the forefront of the British art scene for several decades. She studied in the 1960s at Benton End, Suffolk (the legendary art school run by Cedric Morris and Arthur Lett Haines), Ipswich School of Art, Camberwell School of Art, and the Slade. Over the last decade, she has staged major exhibitions at CAFA Art Museum, Beijing (2019), The British Museum, London (2016), The National Gallery, London (2014), and The State Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg (2013). Hambling’s work is held in many public collections including in the UK Tate, British Museum, National Portrait Gallery and in the US the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Cormorant rising, 2020, oil on canvas is one of Hambling’s continuing series of Cormorant paintings and is donated by the Artist in memory of her sister, Ann Cunningham, who was a founder and much respected, member of The Arts Society Waveney Valley.

Will Harvey

Andrew Haslen
Brought up in Coggeshall, Essex, Andrew Haslen has been painting and drawing wildlife since the 1960s. A member of the Society of Wild Life Artists since 1988, hares have come to play a key role in his work.

Nicola Slattery

Ivy Smith
Studied at Chelsea and Royal Academy Schools in the late 60s. She lives and works in Norwich and has been a visiting lecturer at the Royal Drawing School since 2001. Stuart Pearson Wright
Born in 1975, Stuart Pearson Wright drew with enthusiasm from an early age, before going to study at the Slade School of Art. While there he won a National Portrait Travel Award, using the money to drive round England, painting as he went. The resulting show won him critical comparisons with Blake, Spencer and Cecil Collins. In 2000 he won the BP Portrait Award and has since curated many shows of his and other artists’ work.
