Synopsis

One of the most successful musicals ever by the infamous team of talented creators, John Kander and Fred Ebb, with groundbreaking choreography by Bob Fosse, Chicago took Broadway by storm in 1975.

FYTG Flyers (13-19 years old) embarked on a journey into the 1920’s underbelly of Chicago in April 2025, a world of prohibition, hooch making, smuggling, crime, Jazz, dance crazes and the beginnings of liberation for women.

The play of the same name, by Maurine Dallas Watkins one of the first female crime reporters, from which the musical came, was performed in 1926 and eventually became a silent movie too, starring Ginger Rogers.

The characters and crimes were real, but inevitably tweaked and sexed-up for the stage. Our production focuses on the satirisation of the corrupt criminal justice system and the rise of the ‘celebrity criminal’, making some direct allusions to today.

We hope you enjoy our take on a 70’s classic which we’ve enjoyed making more fitting for 2025, particularly after ‘The Gut Girls’ powerful feminism by our Flyers earlier this year, we couldn’t not attempt a little updating, and were amazed at what similar times we’re in.
