Based on a short story by John Cheever and written by Eleanor Perry, this enigmatic US drama stars Burt Lancaster. He arrives at a pool party, bare-footed and in trunks, declaring his intention to swim home, going from pool to neighbouring pool across the county. Along the way, he meets people from his past, each encounter revealing more about his life and character.

The 1964 story by John Cheever on which this film is based, inspired the late writer and naturalist, Roger Deakin’s own swimming journey across the UK, later to become the best-seller, ‘Waterlog’.
