Auditorium 115 Plan, Thursday 19 Mar 2026, 19:30  - ends at 21:30

The Wittiest Man in 18th Century London.

Presented by Caroline Gay Way and William Drew-Batty

Step into colourful 18th Century London when John Gay, wit, poet and satirist burst onto the scene with his smash hit show The Beggars Opera.

It’s sequel Polly was banned, yet became a record-breaking success!

Through biting humour and song John Gay laid bare the hypocrisy and corruption of the wealthy and powerful.

Still performed worldwide, John Gay’s plays echo today’s themes.

An illustrated talk with music featuring the Beggar’s Opera, Polly and Mack the knife.

A delicious evening of surprise revelation, wit and music.
